FEDERAL
WAY YOUTH & FAMILY SERVICES
FEDERAL WAY YOUTH & FAMILY SERVICES:
Federal Way Youth & Family Services (FWYFS)
has served the human services needs of the Federal Way Community since
1973. In January 2002, FWYFS became a division of VCCC. FWYFS continues
to provide the same high quality services and programs. FWYFS is committed
to providing community-based, outpatient mental health services to children,
families, and adults as well as family support services.
Child & Family Counseling Services:
Programming is designed to meet the varying needs of emotionally
disturbed children, victims of trauma, and children, adults, and families
in crisis. Both individual and family counseling are provided, as well
as case management, crisis response, and psychiatric services. Services
are provided in the office, homes, and schools. Treatment groups are also
provided and include: Anger Management Group for Men and Women, Women's
Support Group, Survivors of Domestic Violence Group, Divorce Group, Teen
Life Skills Group, and Parenting Groups. All services are provided in
collaboration with families, other child-serving systems, and community
organizations.
Family Support Program Services:
Our three Family Support Centers are located within local
residential communities. The Centers serve over 1200 children and adults
each year, and are open to all children, adults, and families in the greater
Federal Way area. Services are free of charge and participants can drop-in
to register. Our programs focus on strengthening families by supporting
positive communication among families, promoting family self-sufficiency,
and helping children/teens build self-esteem with conflict resolution
and social skills. Programs include After School Enrichment, Parent Training
and Support, Family Advocacy Services, Computer Learning Centers, ESOL
Classes, and Family and Community Activities and Events. The Family Support
Program became nationally certified through Family Support America 12/03.
